Menu ~ Week of August 7th

I posted a while back that we had been lax on the jars and we’ve let debt repayment come to a bit of a standstill.  We’re getting the jars back on track, but we’ve also not been doing great on budgeting for our meals.  We used to try and budget  around $10 per meal, however, with grocery prices rising, it becomes harder and harder.  We allot $300 a week for groceries, but we really want to be able to keep this under $250 per week and put the rest on debt and saving for Christmas.  We had been spending all $300 for a while now, so this week when we planned the meals, we tried to keep them between $10 and $15, while keeping them healthly.  Here’s what we came up with:

Sunday, August 7th

Sausage and Pepper Pasta, Salad

Monday, August 8th

Roast Chicken, Broccoli Cheddar Rice, Veggies

Tuesday, August 9th

Shepherd’s Pie Lightened Up

Wednesday, August 10th

Bacon Mushroom and Cheddar Quick Quiche and Salad

Thursday, August 11th

Crock Pot Sante Fe Chicken over Rice

Friday, August 12th

Oktoberfest Sausage on a Bun, Coleslaw

This comes to a grand total of $69.97 for dinners!  Woo Hoo!  I am very happy with that.  We went grocery shopping today and spent $209.46.   We did buy some meat that was on sale to put into the freezer ($25.84 ~ enough for at least 3, maybe 4 meals next week).  Freshco had Old Dutch 100 use size laundry detergent on sale for $2.97 each, so we stocked up and purchased 4 of them ($13.42).  We will have to buy milk at least 2 more times this week, so we kept the grocery spending to under $225!  Awesome!

  2. Hmm… I think I’ll pop over for Wednesdays dinner! 😉

Can I tell you how glad I am that you’re blogging again… there aren’t too many “large family” blogs out there, and it’s nice to read yours!
