New TV Season…what’s on your tele?

Ok, we are very much tv people.  We watch a lot of it after the anklebiters kids go to bed.  We get free cable tv (until June 2011) and we don’t have a lot of money in the entertainment budget, so tv is our main source of entertainment.  I am very excited (translation, I have no life, lol) about the new season coming up and this week  is Premiere Week.  Here are a few shows that I don’t particularly want to miss.  I will break it down into Reality TV, Sit-coms, and Dramas.

Reality TV

We are generally not big reality tv people.  We do not go for the Bachelor, Survivor, or Big Brother…I for one can’t stand the ridiculous backstabbing and drama of some of these shows.  However, there are a couple I watch.  One is Dancing With the Stars…yes the music is cheesy, but it’s a lot of fun.  Among the contestants this year are Florence Henderson (Brady Bunch), David Hasselhoff (Night Rider, Baywatch) and Jennifer Grey (of “nobody puts Baby in a corner fame”, Dirty Dancing).

The other is a Canadian T.V. show called “Battle of the Blades”.  They pair up female figure skaters and NHL hockey players and teach them pairs figure skating and they compete against each other in the same fashion as Dancing with the Stars.  Last year was awesome and this year looks even better.  They got Ekaterina Gordeeva as one of the skaters and I am so looking forward to it!

In the last few years, we have watched a lot of crime dramas (CSI, Bones, Criminal Minds) and we rarely watched any situation comedies.  Over the summer we caught some in reruns and now I don’t want to miss them.  The one that I am sure I won’t miss is Modern Family…if you haven’t seen it, watch it, Wednesday nights.  This one makes me laugh out loud, huge belly laughs.  They recently won best comedy at the Emmy’s.  The others are Cougar Town, Big Bang Theory, and How I met your Mother.  There is also a new one that looks kind of cute and it’s called “Mike and Molly”.  Of course, I will be watching GLEE as well.  We didn’t watch it much during the regular tv season, but we caught most of the reruns and now we’re hooked!

I have always been a big CSI fan.  Lately though, I haven’t really been interested in the Las Vegas franchise of the show.  Although Laurence Fishburne is a great actor, I really miss the void left by Grissom’s departure.  It’s just not the same show.  Not sure if I am going to watch it this year.  However, I do watch CSI: NY…and that’s because I am madly in love with Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor…aka Lt. Dan from Forrest Gump).  So much so I went to see him and his band at Fallsview Casino in 2009.

Other dramas that I am looking forward to are:  Criminal Minds, Flashpoint, Parenthood, and DEXTER!  I am going to have to rely on getting tapes/DVD’s of Dexter as we just can’t afford to get the Movie Network.  I can’t wait to see what they do with the show this year.

There’s one new drama I want to catch and that’s “The Whole Truth”…it’s a law show with Maura Tierney as a Prosecution lawyer and Rob Morrow (Numb3rs) as a defense lawyer.  Might be good and I had loved Rob Morrow ever since his Northern Exposure days.  My only problem is that it’s on Wednesdays at 10 pm, which is way too late for me.  We’ll have to invest in some video tapes!

So…what are you looking forward to watching this season?

  1. Some of my favorites, Fringe, Sons of Anarchy, CSI (all of them! Although I am getting a little burned out on them), Criminal Minds and I just recently got hooked on Glee. For reality, I don’t do much either. I like Flipping Out and Biggest Loser (I have yet to finish the season premiere from the other day). I like True Blood, but like you, can’t afford the premiums, so I wait until the library has them in.

  2. For reality TV, I follow Top Chef, Project Runway and America’s Next Top Model religiously. I also watch Glee and House . There’s other’s that I try to catch here and there but if I miss it, I’m not too bothered.

  3. Hi Judy!
My friend downloads dexter and watches it on her computer. I don’t know if it costs more for that or not, but she has watched the first and second season on-line.
