Menu Plan Monday ~ January 4, 2010

It’s that time again!  Here’s our menu for the week.  Don’t forget to check out all the other great menu’s at I’m An Organizing Junkie.  I haven’t priced out everything for the week yet.  I am a little behind, so hopefully if you come back in a few days, I will have the rest priced out.

Day Meal  Cost
Sunday Sausage and Pepper Penne $7.97
Monday Taco Soup and Bread
Tuesday Quick Quiche, Salad $8.65
Wednesday Perogies, Salad
Thursday Mushroom Chicken Thighs, Mashed Potatoes, Veggies $12.84
Friday Cranberry Roast, Mashed Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts $10.28
Saturday Chicken Canadiana Burgers, Salad

What we did do this week is take a picture of all we got on our shopping trip.  Our budget is $250 per week.  This week we are using up a lot of meat that’s in the freezer.  So, our total bill, all at Food Basics was: $155.43.  That included diapers, toilet paper, paper towel and formula (Meredith is now on formula along with a lot of solid foods…she’s almost 11 months old now).

I don’t know if anyone noticed this over the holidays, but we found that during December we seemed to be paying WAY more for groceries than we usually do.  I honestly believe the grocery stores jack up the prices during the holiday season.  Yesterday seemed back to normal.  Anyone notice the trend, or am I just out of my mind?

Just one last thing, we celebrated a milestone yesterday with our Andrew…he lost his very first tooth!!  The Tooth Fairy came and left him a whole Toonie!

  1. So cool on the first tooth! I bet he was excited!

I agree on the groceries…I spent way too much as well during December. It seemed to always be an extra stop here, or extra items for baking, etc, etc. It really adds up. This month we’re living off KD to catch up. 😉

    • LOL Heather…it’s weird, our dollar didn’t seem to stretch as far in December. We kept it as frugal as we could, but the bills were up. I don’t think it was extra spending for the holidays, because we purchased all our Christmas goodies with gift certificates from Metro (we cashed our airmiles for this purpose). Maybe I am just imagining things!

  2. First tooth yay!! So exciting 🙂

  3. No, you’re probably right. I’m sure that hidden amongst the discounts on frequently used “holiday items” (cream cheese, anyone?), the stores probably jack up the prices on the regular stuff, like milk and bread. Vultures, they are!
